Through further education at Leeds Beckett studying Public Relations, I have discovered the specific type of PR I would like to pursue. Enjoying coordination and socializing lead me towards following a career in events management. Whilst the planning and running of events has proven to be extremely stressful; and one must prepare for the numerous issues that may arise, there is a great deal of satisfaction and pride that can be taken for leading an event that runs to plan. Furthermore, being involved in charity work and giving back to those less fortunate or in need is something of great importance. Given the chance, I would collaborate the two. Annual balls for several charities, where the importance is on giving back however, customers can also enjoy a night of luxury and participate in auctions etc.
Having relevant experience as a brand ambassador has taught me not only how to sell a product, but also how to deal with any issues customers may have on the spot, in a professional manner. Finding a USP for every brand, event, or product I may be selling or promoting is critical to it’s success as is believing in what I am saying. I am confident talking to new people and adapt well to different social situations. As a bubbly outgoing individual I like to spend my free time meeting new people or with my family or friends. I am a proficient user of Microsoft Office Programs and Social Media and have a great understanding of the importance of both within PR.
In the bid to explore new cultures I have set myself a target of visiting a new country once a year. Working abroad for the past two summers has taught me invaluable skills and appreciation of different cultures. I learnt how it felt to be in a vulnerable situation, not knowing anyone or speaking much of the language. Successfully finding a job in a Greek run hotel I worked as an Events manager and PR. Greeting guests upon arrival at the hotel, and advising them the best places to visit during their stay. Leading a team of four running and organising different events taking place at the hotel bar during the evenings. This taught me many transferrable skills such as how to be a influential team leader and overcoming communication barriers.
