I am a second year student at Leeds Beckett University studying Public Relations. Previously, I attended St. Leonard’s Comprehensive school and St. Leonard’s sixth form where I studied English, media, and sociology at A-Level. My chosen options at sixth form helped me immensely when beginning my PR degree through improving literacy skills, presentation skills and analytical skills – all of which are imperative to be successful in PR.
I have worked part time as a digital marketing intern for Achieve Digital Marketing from March 2016 – present. Through this placement I have been given the opportunity to design and build websites, copywriting, develop and implement social media strategies for large and small businesses’. I have created a range of targeted content including blog posts whilst also learning about Search Engine Optimisation, data research and much more. My previous professional experience also includes being a waitress at a high end restaurant for three years where I was able to hugely improve my communication skills and confidence when talking to people of all ages.
In the near future I plan to remain gaining experience working part time with agencies throughout my time at university to help build my professional portfolio and ease the transition into full time work after university. Having worked in an agency and gaining crucial experience in B2B Public Relations and marketing, later in life I wish to continue working with other businesses because I find there is perhaps a wider range of content and strategies produced when working with businesses and a huge variety of audiences are targeted whereas in B2C PR the content is more focussed on one audience consistently. However, I aim to also work in house to expand my strengths and experience and determine which section of PR is more suited for me. Beauty and fashion are my main interests therefore working in house for a large beauty or fashion retailer is something I’d love to do.
